This photobook showcases Davis’ personal exploration of dealing with body image and insecurity. Placed within a society that dictates beauty based on ones physical appearance, Davis examines the interplay between self-perception and the way one is perceived by others.
By inviting the viewer into often intimate scenarios, Davis challenges the act of viewing itself. Raising questions about the relationship between subject and observer. The images are part photographic reconstructions of her own lived experiences, the other part consisting of made up fantasies regarding intimacy, love and desire. They seemingly position the viewers as voyeurs, witnessing aspects of herself that are private and vulnerable.
Spanning eleven years of photographic self-portraits, the work moves beyond introspection. Becoming an outlet for revealing Davis’ thoughts and opinions on the social constructs surrounding beauty, desire and identity through a focused observation of her personal story.
